Bill, for the larger softboxes the grids take the form of black fabric strips, 1 to 3 inches wide, sewn into a very large squared arrangement with holes 1-2 inches on a side, somewhat reminiscent of eggcrates, so the name. The light spread is on the order of 40-50 degrees. Your smaller grids are typically a tight honeycomb of black plastic tubes or bent steel for the beauty dish.
