I have a similar device after a surge/lightning strike took out my internal
hard drive - well worth the money for the peace of mind.

automatically shuts down, and power is limited during normal operation. A
push of a button restarts it after the power has come back on. It sells for

I suspect you are not talking about "uninterrupted power supply",
but rather about a "surge protector".
Typically, many devices die not when the power goes down, but rather
when it comes back up. At that point, all the equipment starts at once,
and there is a large inrush current in the circuits.
Most electronic devices are prone to that.
Usual precaution for the devices that cannot be plugged into a surge
protector or UPS, is to unplug them when the outage occurs.
Many computers, controllers, etc. are lost that way in research labs.

supply, EXCEPT the router at the time. It is now plugged in as well!
Several years ago a similar thing happened and we lost all out
cordless phones. This stuff sure is delicate!
