I cautioned someone once who was feeding Union Square park squirrels
offering tidbits with bare fingers, and not even flat-handed and was
told angrily that squirrels don't get rabies and to mind my own business.

One day, as a grandpa, he showed up with a deep cut in the pad of his
index finger.
I asked about it and my mom eventually told me.
He was feeding a squirrel on the kitchen window ledge by hand.
It was a simple swipe with a claw.
