I try not to exceed 400 for color and 800 for B&W, although if all else fails 1600 is better than a memory at my age. I know that Bob loves the quality, as do I, but they really need a cheaper version (<$400) for folks to try so the system can get some followers. Then folks might be wiling to pay the premium price to upgrade. OTOH, as the used market kicks in the "What the hell I'll try it" factor becomes more important.
As a photographic tool, however, I won't hesitate to grab for the Q. It's a camera I truly enjoy using and I'm happy with the images I produce with it.
