OK I got off my arse and checked.  You're right, there's a "noise
reduction" setting.

Next time I'll know to switch it off but I'm curious about how much
of a difference it'll make to the noise level.  I might have a play
at some stage, I might be able to just leave it switched off.

Yeah, but if I remember, there was a whole lot of pissing and moaning because turning off Noise Reduction doesn't actually turn off the dark frame subtraction.
