I also think that SSD and RAM would be more important than the fastest
CPU. The former would speed up loading photos and improve responsiveness
of Photoshop/LR in general. CPU would noticeably help (but still marginally
IMHO) when you ask LR to export a bunch of photos or a web-gallery.
That's where chrunching power speeds things up.


I think I didn't mention why I would consider a desktop - that's the
flexibility of upgrades. While the computer life cycle seemingly became
shorter, I still think a desktop life cycle can be extended for longer.
Also you gain flexibility of choosing the display which is uncoupled
from the choice of the computer itself.
This arguments are relevant when you are talking about large-size
laptops (17"+) that are heaving and only marginally mobile.
Personally, I prefer smaller-display laptops that are light and portable
(12-13" max).
