I just checked, and setting raw/fx to astrotracer is actually useful.

If the gps isn't on, or the camera isn't in bulb, it does nothing.  If both of 
those are true, then pressing it puts the camera in astrotracer mode, so you 
have to press OK, then the shutter to take an astrotracer timed exposure.
