Macro lenses are just like regular lenses in that there is no absolute "right" or "wrong" focal length, you need multiples. I have both 50mm and 105mm and I find 50mm works best for larger items like big flowers. 105mm is better for smaller items like insects and coins/stamps. You have to use the right tool.
