My 50mm f/1.7 is my favourite lens, but I'd love to try a 1.4 or even a 1.2,
for the extra light.

i'm no connoisseur, and for me the f/1.7 is the sweet spot, the practical choice, producing excellent images and easily replaced if necessary; it is said that the 1.7 has a flatter field than 1.4 as well

i have had an M/1.4 and an A/2.0, never seen the 1.2; the 2.0 seemed less sharp; i didn't perceive a practical difference between 1.4 and 1.7; i like bokeh but i don't spend a lot of effort on it, and 1.7 is already shallower depth of field than i usually want; it was harder to focus the 1.4, so i had to use DOF preview more; the f/1.2 sounds like a pain

i do think the future of low-light manual focusing is EVF; even with the grainy EVF on a Panasonic GH2 i'm surprised how useful it is in low light; if i were pursuing "artistic" video effects i might enjoy the 1.2 on the Panny
