In a nutshell, that gradual realization is what has finally prompted me to change brands. It's not a complete dissatisfaction with image quality, AF speed, or any other single parameter, noise on the K-7 yes. It's the feeling that every time I lay out $1200 or more, that I'm buying yesterday's best. Buying APS-C format lenses is also a dead end in my opinion, unless one's decided they will never move to FF. Even in the backwaters of podunk Boise, it's surprising how many Nikon DX lenses are on craigslist because the owner is moving to full frame. Twelve hundred plus dollars is a sizable sum and I reached the point where I 1) basically said 'to hell with it', and 2) was at least temporarily in a financial position where I could make the leap, though I've yet to acquire more than a few lenses or even know which lenses I really want. My original post was not meant to demean other's purchases or choices. If it was perceived that way, I apologize. My post was mostly meant to express the sentiment that given the ability, one needn't be locked into one brand. As far as market share and comparisons to Subaru, my having 2 Subaru's in my garage vs. Pentax in my camera bag is not duplicitous in the least. First, I need affordable, practical, and safe vehicles for my family. Second, Subaru is profitable with 2% market share and is gradually increasing. Pentax had 4% market share several years ago and is down around 2% now. If one is satisfied with their current choice in camera brands, then good for them. My overall point was there's more than one choice and I decided not to let my accidental first purchase of a Pentax MX and 4 lenses 22 years ago dictate what I do today or tomorrow.
