to be precise, this list accepts plain text of several varieties, not just ASCII (e.g. Unicode UTF-8, such as 宾得)
what it doesn't accept are messages that have an HTML formatted part, even if they also have a plain text part
you probably know this, but for the benefit of others, the iOS Mail app is smarter than some: it will send plain text unless it thinks formatting is necessary; unfortunately when Dropbox puts a link on your clipboard, it formats it (invisibly) and that formatting is carried over to Mail when you past it i
