They're a Canadian brand owned by Godin. The Godin brands include: Art & Lutherie - budget entry level guitars LaPatrie - classical guitars Seagull - solid wood entry level to mid-range guitars Simon and Patrick - mid-range steel string acoustics Godin - mid-range to top-of-the-line guitars + electric guitars I think the S6 is pretty much Seagull's "entry level" instrument. It's not a budget guitar, but it should be good for a beginner.
