That is a good article, and he makes some good points.  I will say, that as an 
exercise, spending some time (preferably days or weeks, rather than hours) 
shooting with only a single focal length, can really help you understand how 
focal length affects a photo, above and beyond simply making the primary 
subject larger or smaller.  Even more so, I recommend going out and shooting 
with some awkward focal length, rather than a "standard", whether it's wider 
than you want, or longer.
