The thing is the speed with which it is going up AND that it is blocking
views of other good buildings. What was there before was not
beautiful, but it was only 3 stores high.
All around this area there are buildings marked for landmark
preservation. Yes, better mirror glass than concrete , but
it is doing more blocking of views than anything else.

I don't quite see the hideousness, but I have no idea what was there
before.
It looks like one of those all mirror-glass buildings that once it's
finished, all you'll see is what's around it to be reflected. If the
neighbors are attractive or interesting it might not be so bad.
