Audio/visual sync'ing is a solved problem: the clapper board. I've
observed DSLR-based filmmaking live, and external mics and recorder
with sync supplied by the clapper board or even a simple hand-clap is
all that's needed to get great results.

If you have an iPad, there's even a clapper board app that lets you
enter scene info which the video will pick up.
