Yes, but that's the point, check out the price for replacements at Pentax.

I have the O-ME53 and the rubber's beginning to split. The fact that it's perfectly good except for that I'd just like to buy the rubber. being a Yankee I'm offended at having to replace the entire Axe when all it needs is a handle

These damned things are pretty expensive for what they are and replacement
rubber couldn't be more expensive, especially for the O-ME53.
