In the U.S. (particularly in the southwest) it would be called an arroyo
or a dry gulch.

Anways, I wonder how that photo would look in black and white, posssibly with
an orange filter or just darkening the blue luminance slider to bring out the
sky.
I like the composition but the details don't stand out the way they might.
