Bipin,
I can't recall if I gave you any advice, but I am one of those who don't use
protective filters.
Dust, grit and aerosol droplets finds its way onto the front-most element of
glass no matter what you do. If you had used a filter, you would have to
clean that instead of the lens.
If you are looking for a convenient way to clean your front element, I can
recommend you to get a lens pen. It has a brush on one end to remove
particles, and a soft pad on the other to remove residue.
A clean cloth of fine Indian cotton will get also you a long way. Cotty's
method for adding moisture won't work so well if you're still in India. You
will need a cool place like Britain or Canada for your exhalation to mist
the glass. Instead, breathe into the cloth to moisten it just a tiny bit. No
spit or cough, just a hint of dampness.
I'm sure you will clean it up very nicely. Just be careful, and always
remove dust before residue.
hth,
Jostein

Subject: NO NOT AGAIN - TO FILTER OR NOT TO FILTER
PDMLer Friends, taking the cue from many of you here, I did not buy
the 62 mm protective filter (quite rare too) for my brand new DA 18
-135 WR + K-5 - Kit bought from Henry's in Toronto, for CAD 979.99 +
Tax shipped.
Spent 11/2 days shooting a wedding, then (2) days at street
photography in the historic old twin city of Hyderabad -
Secunderabad, once ruled by the then richest man in the world, the
Turki Nizams.
Guess what, the lens had an assortment of spots, stains, dust, and what
not??
And you bet I used the supplied hood, took reasonable care and stayed
from dirty or wet places.
Now which one of us PDLMers are going to send me some pec pads, lens
fluid and a Hoya 62 mm protector filter??
Regards.
Bipin - from that far away enchanting land.
