I haven't owned the lens but I did own the Pentax SMC DA 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 AL WR which wasn't too impressive. I sold it not long after I purchased it as I was never pleased with the resultant image quality. The Photozone review of the lens accords with my experience and their review of the DA 18-135 is somewhat worse than that again so I wouldn't expect too much compared to primes.
