There's some birds that when they're almost fully fledged & ready to fly
hop out of the nest & perch nearby. If you get too close to them they can't
fly away yet, so they'll just sit there. Usually the parents are nearby
and will fiercely harass anyone (or anything) that comes near.

I bet mama wasn't just sitting on Larry's head, she was pecking the hell out
of him. I've had them attack me when I didn't even know the baby bird was
there (until I figured out why the mama bird was making such a fuss).

If Larry took this at lunch, the baby bird was probably ready to fly
away by the time he got off work.
