I think I've seen a version of that portrait with a smile. It was in an article about photographic outtakes. It doesn't look as bad as you'd think, but it doesn't convey the power and determination of the man either.

I have to say, I'm a little surprised that I seem to like somber images more
than others. They really have always been the photos that stick with me the
most.
