Hi Shel,
I'm using the Omega D2 with a cold light head to enlarge 6x7 negs. I use
the standard Omega negative carrier. With BW film, I cut the negs into
strips of two, being careful to leave plenty of border between frames.
This gives the film holder a good grip. I've had no problem with film
flatness. Like you, I use a 25X grain magnifier and will frequently
check focus at a couple of spots on the neg. I was examined the grain on
some finished 16x20 prints just last night, and found it to be uniformly
sharp. I also use a cold light for 35mm (an Omega B22XL) and have never
missed my condensers, which will remain packed away on the shelf.
