In the last several years I've purchased new the FA 300 f4.5, 17-28mm F and a 600mm FA, all have come with the "bayonet" type rear cap. My read on the push on cap is that somewhere, from Pentax to customer, somebody is removing the bayonet cap and replacing it with the push on.
