I'd say that you took the words right outta my mouth, Chris, but I was asleep, and dreaming of more pleasant things. But I agree ... if one uses Ken's and Wheatfield's argument, then your point is equally, and perhaps more, valid.
I just heard some statistics that pointed out how dangerous obesity has become, and how the lack of exercise and poor diet has become a major killer in our society. Should the government begin to more closely regulate what we eat (perhaps requiring a cholesterol test before we can buy a hamburger). Shit, here in California, and perhaps nationwide, you can't even *legally* buy a rare hamburger at a restaurant without receiving a warning, and some places won't sell anything but well-cooked meat. Where does government intrusion into our lives stop? And as for helmet laws, California's law is a shame, for it allows such minimal helmets that they are, for all intents and purposes, useless. There are people riding around with thin, plastic shells that are not much better than a yarmulke for protection, yet they comply with the letter of the law.
