If one uses an external lightmeter when using a variable aperture
zoom lens will you have a problem, for example with a
35-80mm F/2.8- 3.8. As I understand this zoom it is
F 2.8 at 35mm and 3.8 at 80mm most of the time one is not
on these end aperture's. I assume in-between 35mm and 80mm
the aperture varies between F 2.8-3.8

How specifically does one take a proper light reading
with an external lightmeter using a variable aperture zoom lens.
