Dumb question/suggestion from a Mac guy: On a Mac, when you delete files they go into the Trash which is just another folder (directory) in the file system. They stay there and can be dragged back to your photo folder or wherever until you empty the Trash. I vaguely recall that Windows is similar. I can't tell from your narrative whether you just Deleted the files, or if you also emptied the Trash?
