Fingers are generally pretty good at learning new things, even if it takes a week or so of fumbling at first. > > BUT. I've missed having full frame all this time. Or, you could offer your girlfriend half the cost of the 60D, as long as you get access to it. That way you have access to full frame, and get to see how well it really works, plush she gets to carry the heavy kit. > > The money spent would be about the same. My hunch is that if you get the K3, in three months you'll be wishing you had the money for the full frame K mount. > > What says the PDML? It seems to me that debating K3 or full frame is kind of like debating Corvette or Ferrari. There are differences in performance, but I don't know how often they'll have an effect in day to day use. I think that we are also starting to see the effects that Ricoh is having on Pentax. There are people on this list that know more about marketing than I do, and perhaps they could answer what would be the ideal timing on releasing a high end APS and a high end full frame. If you release them at the same time, you only get one publicity bump. If you release the full frame first then people who buy the full frame won't buy the APS, however there are certain people that will always buy the top of the line body when it is available. However, even they might take pause at dropping $2K+ on a full frame body only a few weeks after dropping $1,300 on a K3. Also, when the full frame comes out, the K-3 will no longer be the best Pentax body on the market, and will lose sales value. So, even barring engineering challenges, I don't think that they'd release the full frame until prices start to drop on the K-3. The other question is, would they announce it at a big show? Or would they avoid that period and announce it during an otherwise quiet photo news period, so that they are not competing with other announcements? I'd be inclined to wait until at least a short while after whatever would be the best time, from a marketing point of view, to announce a full frame, to make any Pentax buying decisions that have a long term financial impact. If you were to buy the 60D, would you keep your Pentax gear? If you were to buy it, and in four months Pentax announces a full frame, could you sell it to your girlfriend to finance the Pentax upgrade? Is there anyplace that you could rent the 60D for a week or two and see if you really like it? -- Larry Colen [email protected] http://red4est.com/lrc -- PDML Pentax-Discuss Mail List [email protected] http://pdml.net/mailman/listinfo/pdml_pdml.net to UNSUBSCRIBE from the PDML, please visit the link directly above and follow the directions.
