The original K and M caps were Clip on that mimicked the old slip on
Metal caps. The slip on plastic lens caps came later IIRC on bargain
lenses.

The original rubbery plastic slip-ons used with some M-series (?) or K come
along occasionally. I bought 10 or so the last time I came across some on eBay
- they slide onto a 49mm lens (or filter) nicely. Also produced in 52mm size.
Sometimes a bit of tape on the inside edge helps for a more secure fit.

The original Pentax metal caps fit to the outside of the lens or filter.
Same as the Schneider plastic cap.
Those metal caps were gone by the time I got 'F' lenses.

Do these fit to the inside the outer ring of the filter?
I was thinking of the caps Pentax included for a while that just slip on
over the outside of the barrel, hence my original comment about finding
one of the right diameter. I got one with a SMCP-A 50mm one time.

My several B+W 'thin' filters all came with a Schneider plastic cap
that fit them quite well, knocked then off by accident one or two
times, but they never fell off on their own accord. In fact, if you
use them with the lens shade on between sites, it is hard to get a
fingernail under the ridge around the cap to pull it off. On some of
my lenses with that setup, you can get the cap off by taking the lens
shade off, which lifts the Schneider cap off the slim filter.

The last Hoya filter I bought with no female threads came with a

A few days ago someone was looking for pentax lens caps that
gripped the filter threads & I responded that I bought such an
item from Pentax awhile back. They're still available here -

I think he was looking for the push-on type cap that slides over
the outside of the front barrel because he bought a thin circular
polariser that doesn't have any threads on the front side.
