That's quite interesting.  Triathletes often hook their bikes onto the racks 
using the seat in that way.

The Marin bike in the second pic is very interesting to me.  I've never seen 
rear suspension like that; it must be an early design.  It looks very heavy.

yeah, speaking of minimal "gruppos"

it's a suspension fork used as seat stays; probably 1995 Marin Team FRS (design licensed from Manitou, which had produced similar bikes for a couple of years; have never seen on in person myself, but i have one of Marin's better steel bikes from 1995 (Pine Mountain)
