It's still around and still being developed. The Wine Applications database suggests that some recent versions of Photoshop (CS, CS2, CS3, CS6) work reasonably well under Linux via Wine. The database indicates that Version 6, which I was trying to run, has major issues - as do CS4 and CS6.

A problem with these ratings, though, is that they depend a lot on the hardware configurations of the PCs used to make the assessments. So, just because the Wine database indicates good compatibility for (say) CS3, it doesn't mean that CS3 will work satisfactorily on my machine.
