They complain about the rangers stopping them in the text accompanying
their YouTube posting.
I was just pointing out that their failure to obtain a commercial
filming permit is just as valid a reason for that to have happened as is
any anti-drone sentiment.

Yeah, its a bit weak for a black sheep video. They've done much better
work. They use gopros, so they can't do much about the bad DR really.
Much of the point of their videos is to just put drones in interesting
places and get unique perspectives. I wouldn't be surprised if the
rangers did stop them. They are approached by authorities quite often.

I took a look at the black sheep grand canyon video. I don't care much
for their videography. All jump cuts and odd angles make it difficult
to really see anything, not to mention a lot of blocked up shadows.
It looked like the first half of the video was made just outside the
park, to the east along the Colorado River downstream of the Glen Canyon
Dam (near Navajo Bridge). I recognized The Vermillion Cliffs in the
background. Second part was maybe Bright Angel Point on the North Rim. I
recognized the North Rim road coming down from Jacob Lake/Kaibab Village
on US 89A.
They may have had as much trouble from the rangers for doing
"commercial" videography without a permit as they had over using the drones.

I'm surprised the explosion shock waves and ejecting burning material
don't interfere with flight more to be honest. Some of the blasts are
quite close.
The paradigm shift has already happened. The problem now, at least in
the United States, is, will drones become totally illegal for
civilians to use in public places? It seems to be that's where things
are headed. The FAA has already outright declared that anyone using
them commercially will be fined and has done so to the tune of $10,000
at least in one case. If anyone hasn't they should go to youtube and
watch some of the black sheep videos. There is one that they filmed
over the grand canyon that was pretty decent, thought not their best
by any means. Since drones in national parks are now illegal, you'll
likely now never see anything like it again. There is undoubtedly risk
involved with drones. If it malfunctions and falls out of the sky on
someone's head, there's potential for serious injury. The spinning
blades carry some serious inertia too. Especially on the larger
models. I'm on the fence, because on one hand, a bunch of idiots are
going to inevitably buy PVP gear and start flying these things around
with no real experience, but on the other, the people that know what
they are doing shouldn't really have to have the party ruined for them
because of a bunch of morons.

I've read some of you are toying with the idea of getting a drone,
this might give you some ideas ;)
