The trick is to land before you run out of fuel, while you still have a
choice.

The wind was light and variable. That makes "piloting" near
impossible. These things pretty much drift with the prevailing
westerlies until they run low on fuel and have ot land.
So the only thing you can do is make sure you are above a big open
field when the fuel runs out... if you can.
