When I said earlier I could understand why it scared your dog it was
kinda tongue in cheek because of the smiley face on the balloon -
a giant "hale fellow, well met" annoyance.
Went to the balloon festival in Albuquerque in October,1982 - now -that-
was really something. (there is one shot I took on my pentax users
page) THe sound of the propane tanks was a nice whoosh sound to
me - and the sky that day was an intense blue - we got to the field
around 6 in the morning, I think... had to leave in time to get to
a 12:00 start of a Scrabble tourney I was in.
Look forward to seeing more pics, Dan.

I assume the landing was unplanned?
Yes and no. The balloon launched knowing it would be setting down in
a residential neighborhood. It tried to set down in the cul-de-sac in
front of our house, but overshot it, barely clearly our roof and the
roof on the house next to us, then crossing that back yard before
landing in the front yard of the house behind us. I'm sure they
hadn't planned on setting down that close to a house, however.
