I did try it several years back, Ken, and it was very enjoyable.  It
was indeed eerily when the burner was off, but I was surprised at how
noisy the burner was when you are that close to it.

On my trip, we suddenly lost all the wind, and were becalmed above a
forested area.  We couldn't land until the ground crew reached us.  We
threw down ropes, and they pulled us along until we were over a small
clearing, but it was  tricky, as the ropes kept getting tangled in the
trees, and we had to pull them up and then toss them out again.

I highly recommend the experience.
