okay, FYI with that setting, Thunderbird is not "converting", it's simply
showing you the plain text version created by the sender (which might or might
not have been converted from HTML at their end)
i get lots of email and have used TB on OS X for a decade or so, and i can't
recall ever seeing non-wrapping behavior when simply viewing received
plain-text messages; it is probably a difference in settings, or perhaps an OS
difference; if you ever seen this non-wrapping behavior on a PDML message, let
me know and i can look at the same message and try to duplicate the behavior
note that you can sort by status in the config editor to quickly see which of
your settings are non-default; browsing through those might give you a clue
