Hi Bernd

>( But what I don't understand there: he says in his description: 'Of the

>quench'' contact.' That's OK for me as it is the left contact looking at the

shows the blue wire in question. The drawing is orientated with the flash
facing away from the viewer. So that you're looking at the back of the
flash. Hence the corresponding contact on the camera would be the left
one, with the camera facing away from you also.

That is correct. What I wanted to do was to be able to was disable the
TTL quench contact at will, in my case by fitting a simple switch in
line. Contacts explained:

In practice, I flip my (Steve Larson inspired) switch, and set the power
switch usually to MS-L. In bright ambient light at reasonable distance
for, say a portrait, this allows the flash to fire and neatly fills in
shadows in the eye sockets / under a baseball cap. The camera will be set
to X, forcing it to use 1/75th sec shutter time, and I simply bring the
aperture in manual to match the exposure of 1/75 sec.

I find that outside on an overcast day, I underexpose by up to a stop (I
shoot negs) otherwise the faces tend to burn a bit on the neg. Generally
it works well, although I'm restricted to using 1/75th sec and whatever
aperture that requires in the available range. Generally it's not a
problem using 200 ISO film. I'm happy with the results. On a bright day
it puts a great sparkle in the eyes for family snaps, which is really the
only time I use it. My 'real' portraits are low-key moody affairs, and I
never use flash for those.
