Bruce has highlighted the statement that I think is really driving Ricoh right now. I think they have ascertained that the Pentax brand name only really has value for an older demographic (for the most part). They are trying to get the younger generation back with the new Q and the K-S1 (just look at their video ads for them). Ricoh is going after the young immortals market (under their Ricoh brand name) with the WG-M1.
Pentax seems committed to winning back some pro users with the 645z (particularly studio & flash users with their upcoming new leaf shutter lenses). It is still amazing how far under the competition that system is priced. If they are able to take that same strategy to the allegedly upcoming full frame DSLR, then they will have a chance to grab more than just the older generation - because having economics on your side is never a bad thing.
