Caught it on Netflix yesterday - photographically, probably the best recent B+W film I've seen.

Its worth watching just for the cinematography alone! Every shot is a
well composed frame.

It is currently on Netflix, for those subscribers in the U.S. who
would like to see it on the small screen.

My wife and I saw it in Brisbane in October - a very, very good film. The cinematography was
top-notch too.
The best b&w movie I've seen in recent years was "The Artist": each shot seemed to have a perfect
range of tones.

You get a taste of the photography and composition I'm going ga-ga over from the 2 minute trailer:

I haven't seen it yet, but it's had rave reviews from all the people

a recommendation...

Heh. You may be right there, Bob. It is a product of Poland, not France.
People allergic to subtitles will hate it for that reason alone. It's
main characters are a young woman (about to take her vows in a
convent) and her aunt. So, for that reason, some might dismiss it as
a "chick flick". (I object to that entire premise). It may not appeal
to your tastes as there are no explosions, car chases, or gun fights.
But WOW do you have to see it, if only to hit "Pause" repeatedly to
study the superb "photographs" that make up nearly each and every scene (and even cut).
