Just a guess, but I would imagine that there are only certain fields
which are editable and perhaps they must be done from within the
program (Elements) to prevent falsification of data. For example,
someone could try to change the Copyright information after the fact
to claim work that was not theirs if what you are proposing was
allowed. I'm guessing that what you are experiencing is by design, for
the integrity of the data.

As I say though, this is just a guess.
