Larry, I got interested in Porsche's in the late 50's - a guy down the
street had a Speedster and I was always admiring the simplicity of it -
however working at Ford and raising a family I never got around to scratch
the itch, so to speak. Almost bought a 911 after my Shelby GT 350 was
stolen, but I didn't want my heart broken again.
Fast forward to 2005 and the local Porsche dealer invited me to drive a 2005
Boxster - I had first seen the prototype Boxster at the 1997 Detroit Auto
show and really liked the car but couldn't get comfortable in it. The 05 was
the second generation Boxster with a roomier interior and I wound up
ordering and buying the Boxster S version.
As I mentioned to Paul, the past summer I got to drive a 2015 Cayman GTS at
a proving ground and simply fell in love with it. Something about the
relatively small size and the responsiveness of a mid engine car with 340hp.
After I ordered the GTS, Porsche announced they were going to offer a Cayman
GT4 - with a 380hp 911 engine. which should give most street 911's a
spanking.
My impressions of my Boxster were that Porsche knows how to make a true
driver's car - not a committee car.
And, yes Porsches can be expensive - especially if they're loaded up with
all the non functional/decorative trim options - do you really want a key
fob in the exterior color of your car? My Boxster had none of that and the
GTS I ordered was ordered in the same vein.
I'm excited - can't wait for the car to be built, shipped and delivered.
...End of rant...

You're correct Bob.
I don't have any Leicas, brassy or not, but I do have a non brassy 05
Porsche Boxster 'S'. Its up for sale at the moment, as I have a 2015
Porsche Cayman GTS on order.
I haven't been keeping up with the details on the new Porsches the way I
did 40 years ago in my teens, but I do think that the Cayman is the
prettiest Porsche since probably the 904.
