Matthew,
It's nice to hear about your experience.
It is not terrible, but it's just what seems to be the "accepted average"
service these days.
(I've been dealing with various customer services recently.)
FWIW, They've waited for the replacement parts for several weeks (2-3? 4?)
when my 17-70/4 lens' motor died and was replaced by CRIS under warranty
2 or 3 years ago.
As a side note, - while it doesn't affect me at this point, but I am
totally disappointed by UPS considering "adult" starting from 21 y.o.
What? Those between 18 and 21 can buy things from the internet, and they
cannot receive them? And at 18, they can enlist and die, but are not
allowed to sign for UPS packages? That's totally stupid.

For those who are interested, here is a recap of my recent experience
with Precision Camera. Not perfect, not horrible. The repair was my
K-5 II, which lost its flash pop-up button. It was covered by a Pentax
extended warranty (which Adorama was selling for only $20 when I
bought the camera).
GOOD:
- Most importantly, the camera seems to be repaired properly. They
replaced the whole top cover assembly.
- The sensor and viewfinder are nice and clean. I'm sure there was
some crud in the viewfinder when I sent it out.
- The camera was very well packaged for shipment back to me
(box-in-box, well-padded).
- The extended warranty was honored with no issues.
MEH:
- I sent the camera out on May 11, and got it back on June 10.
Shipping was 2 days each direction. Not as fast as I would like, and
not as fast as Sigma, but not a horror story either.
- Part of the time was "waiting for parts". Since Precision is the
only authorized repair center in the US, it would be nice if they
maintained a complete parts inventory there.
- I called Precision twice, and each time I was able to speak to a
human. I did have to wait about 10 minutes each time.
- Return shipment was "adult signature required" (age 21+) which may
be inconvenient for people who are not home, or 18-20 year olds. I
used UPS My Choice to have it held at a UPS facility very close to my
work, so it was not a problem for me.
BAD:
- I sent in the regular and extended warranty cards, and the receipts,
but they did not come back with the camera. I called them and they'll
try to find them. I have scans, which I hope will be honored if future
repairs are necessary.
- I sent the camera with the strap rings attached, and they were not
returned. The work order does indicate that they were present
originally. I called them and they said they would send me the rings.
- I contacted them once using the web form, and received no response.
This is the third time overall that I have used the form, and it has
never resulted in a response.
