when we owned a duplex we had some very smart graduate students in the downstairs apartment; one day they called to say their apartment was getting too hot and adjusting the thermostat didn't seem to help; when i went down to take a look, i found the antenna of their TV set was lodged into the gap of the old disc-style thermostat; it was plain as day but somehow they hadn't made the connection
