Well, Pentax starts a naming convention, follows it for a few models,
then screws it up, then starts over.

For a very long time Pentax had a very well thought out full line of
lenses, in the original K, then M, then A, then F, then it all started
to go to hell...

I remember reading someplace recently that Pentax didn't name any lenses "K", that's just what people called them.




They were called K to differentiate them from the M lenses. It's just shorthand for SMC-Pentax vs XMC-Pentax M.
