I've had a checking account linked to Paypal for 18 years and have never had any problems with it. For safety and security, it's an account separate from my main savings/checking repository, at a different bank, but that doesn't mean there isn't a sizable sum of money in it. It's my daily use checking account.
Having a linked bank account with Paypal nets useful benefits and savings. Since they split with EBay, I have not done any linking between them; I prefer to keep it separate.
