Bottled water may be just as hard as tap water. In fact, sometimes the only differences between bottled water and tap water are the container and the price. I don't think it's a coincidence that "Evian" is "naive" spelled backwards.
One of the readily available filters will go a long way to clean up tap water to where it is better than bottled water. Distilled water is the best but it is probably a bit of overkill, unless you have an economical way of getting it, like a home water distiller.
