You probably only need a heater for color processing, in which case I
would recommend getting a good book on the subject.

For b+w, you need a tempering bath - this is a largish tub or basin
that holds water at the desired processing temp. You put your
containers in this before you start working. Generally it's pretty
easy to keep the bath within a degree or 2 of the target. I just use a
tupperware box.

I'm very uptight about developer temp, but I can live with the stop
and fixer drifting a degree or so.

For containers I use 1.5 liter Aquafina bottles. They're the right
size, and have fairly wide mouths. Garorade bottles are smaller, but
have a wide mouth and a more stable base.
