I a bought a M42 to K adapter on my employee discount when the MX came
out. I still have the original box...
somewhere.

I may have the opportunity to do some photos using a friends

Are there any specific ones that people would recommend as doing a
good job and not being too expensive?
That depends on the telescope. My Celestrons have a prime focus camera
adapter to which you attach a standard t-mount, similar to this one:

If you are doing eyepiece projection photography of the moon or planets
then you need this:

Other makes of telescopes will have similar accessories. Maybe your
friend already has the adapters, and all you need to supply is the
t-mount.
That would be my guess. Do you have a recommendation for a T-mount? All
I know is that I don't know what I need, or how to get a decent one
without spending lots of money.
Has nothing to do with mounting to a telescope, but one of the attendees
at my weekly photography brunch had a couple of interesting Pentax
artifacts this morning:
Printed manual for Program Plus
Pentax Adapter-K (still in the box) for mounting screw mount lenses
Honeywell reverse mount adapter.
He's one of that "My first camera was a Pentax" crowd. Shoots Canon now,
but I still talk to him.
