I mostly shoot with primes when I have a good idea of what I'm going to be shooting. But for more flexibility, I either take the DA 12-24 for landscapes, or for complete flexibility I take the DA 18-135. You might want to consider the 18-135 if you are going to stay with APS-C. I thought the wide range would really compromise the optical quality, but I really can't fault this lens much, except for a little bit of vignetting at the wider stops, which can be corrected. I'm really happy with the results of this lens and that extra wide zoom range really comes in handy. Especially at the long end.
