IrfanView can do random slideshows.

For many years, it was my contention that iPhoto was the worst attempt
at commercial software that I had ever had the misfortune of using. It
did have one, single, bit of usefulness, running a slideshow, with the
photos in random order, but at a configurable duration.
iPhoto has been replaced by Photos, a program so simple, that it takes
a couple hours of internet research to figure out how to reliably make
it go away and not pop up every time you read a new SD card. They have
also streamlined the slideshow function right out of the software,
simplifying it to the point of no longer having any reason for
existence what so ever.
One possibility is to point my display background at a folder of
photos, but that has the disadvantage of showing icons for everything
in my desktop folder on top of the images.
Another possibility is to use the screen saver on hot corners. It
nearly works OK, except that you cannot set how long the photos are
displayed for.
I did finally find a program called Phoenix Slides

I'm pleased to say that it actually works quite well, and wanted to
share the link with anyone else that might want to set up a slideshow
of their photos.
