Hi guys, I just picked up a chrome ES II in really quite nice condition for 50 (~$73). It has a slight ding on the top plate where your right thumb lies when you hold it and a bit of paint loss on the back door, but otherwise it seems to be very clean indeed. Much better nick than my falling-apart SP anyway. The bottom plate has a sticker saying 'serv H 11-5-99', which might be the last time it was serviced? All-in-all I am really quite pleased with it.
The seller also threw in 8 brand new batteries, a Helios 58mm f2 lens and a Soviet-era Russian 'Norma FIL-47' flashgun (well I presume '3CCP' makes it Soviet-era!). These last two items are a bit puzzling. First of all, the Helios lens doesn't seem to have a auto/manual switch on it and seems to need the stop down lever on the camera operating to meter. Is this normal? It's no biggie really 'cos I have a late model 55/1.8 SMC Tak that cries out to belong to the ES II. The flash is a bit odd too. It's a smallish manual hotshoe mounting jobbie but has no battery compartment. Instead there is a little DIN socket plus a fixed 2-core cable about 9 foot long comes out the side ending in a 2-pin Euro plug. The side of the flash says -300B ~220B. That seems to indicate it wants 220V AC or (???) 300V DC. Anyone had any experience of a flash like that before? I'm hoping it's safe to plug into the UK mains (approx 230V AC) - any opinions before I commit hari-kiri? :-) Cheers, Chris - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
